Policing Strategy
The RSIC Tribal Police works closely with the community, utilize the principles and philosophies of Community Oriented Policing. We have the highest respect for the traditions and culture of the people of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony and tailor our policing strategies around those philosophies.

Training
Police Officers are required to complete a Basic Police Academy recognized by the Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training Committee, (P.O.S.T.), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, (B.I.A.). They must also complete a formal Field Training and Evaluation Program prior to being released to patrol by themselves.

Police Officers must also complete yearly mandated annual training requirements, along with a minimum of 40 hours of in service training. This training includes firearms qualifications, weaponless defense tactics, laws of arrest, and search and seizure.

Authority and Jurisdiction The R.S.I.C. Police Department maintains jurisdictional authority over all lands within the boundaries of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. We work closely with federal agencies for all major crimes which may additionally fall under federal jurisdiction and state agencies in handling crimes committed by non-Indians.
